HVAC rentals are experts in the installation of water-cooled and air-cooled temporary chillers. Our teams have been designing, selecting, and installing temporary water-cooled and air-cooled chillers for years.
Air Street - London
Full design and installation of a temporary district cooling network inclusive of pump, PHE, and chiller management. The existing district cooling network failed therefore we installed our rental equipment to take the load of retail, hotel, and office infrastructure.
The sites chillers were located a basement level -3 therefore we designed, fabricated, and installed a temporary steel riser running from ground level to the basement. This involved structural, mechanical and design validations all completed by our in-house teams.
Using specialist core drilling contractors, we drilled a series of pre-planned holes to allow the temporary riser to penetrate from ground to -3. A rental chiller was craned and mechanically moved into place within the loading bay with around 250M of rental pipework installed to connect the riser / chillers pumps and rental water-cooled chiller.
Once mechanically connected our team completed an electrical validation running a temporary power supply from the existing power supply. The overall chiller package was able to provide over 2000KW of cooling subject to system conditions.

Full design and installation of a temporary modular chiller system inclusive of pump, PHE, and chiller management.Â
The sites centrifugal chiller had failed with parts on extensive lead-times therefore we came up with a temporary chiller rental package to take on the buildings cooling requirements.
This involved utilising what was an art gallery at ground level as a temporary plantroom to house our 350KW modular chillers.
By removing a double door and using specialist lifting teams we can offload and land two modular chillers at ground level using core drilling and temporary risers to access the chiller plant room at basement level -2.
The package held the building district cooling load for over 12 months during phased and planned replacement.Â

Cheapside - London
Full design and installation of a temporary water-cooled chiller including on-site manifold fabrication and 10-meter scaffolding arrangement.
Our client called to report a loss in cooling as one of two site chillers had critically failed due to evaporator tube failure.
The site systems load profile showed that the single chiller was not sufficient to support the building load requirements at a higher ambient based on historically running data.
Our team calculated the cooling capacity requirements to ensure our water-cooled rental chiller would be able to support the lack of cooling between full capacity of a single chiller and peak load resulting in a requirement for 700KW of cooling.
Our stock team prepped and dispatched a high-capacity water cooled rental chiller which was to be temporarily installed within the sites loading bay. As with all water-cooled chiller hires it is often the case that the site systems are within a basement or low-level carpark.
In this case the chiller was basement level 1 therefore we stripped out the mesh grating between ground and basement level using the site extract vent as a temporary riser for 100M + of flexible water-cooled chiller hire pipework.
The loading bay needed to be secured which posed a challenge as electronic doors needed to be reprogrammed and altered so that they would still allow for safety and ensure they would not touch our water-cooled chiller pipework.
Scaffolding was erected to support the weight of the condense and chilled water pipework between the ground and basement water cooled chiller.
This water-cooled chiller hire will remain in place over the summer period whilst the site team is waiting for long lead-time critical spares required to repair their current water-cooled chiller.
All the above works were managed in-house by the HVAC RENTALS technical department.
Our client had a critical failure of their dry air cooler and chilled water network which required a completed system shutdown to enable critical system repairs.
Our hire design and selection team came up with a temporary solution to install temporary hire chillers into the buildings basement loading bay.
Given that air cooled hire chillers require natural ventilation under ordinary circumstances to prevent from recirculation and high pressure conditions we had to review the basements supply and extract requirements to match the air displacement of the hire chiller with the displacement of cooler ambient fresh air.
As the buildings infrastructure could not quite cope with the heat displacement of the rental chiller we supplemented fresh air via flexible Ducting connected to our high pressure rental air handling units which were positioned into the cool air side of the loading bay.
Ordinarily we would have opted for our water cooled rental chillers however given the sites critical cooling asset failure we wouldn’t have had anywhere to reject the condenser side of the systems heat.
Site limitations also meant we did not have space to land one of our hire dry air coolers.
Our temporary cooling solution worked with 100% client satisfaction.
Hounslow Data Center Emergency Chiller Hire Package - Case Study
In the world of data centre facilities management, HVAC rental is a critical procurement requirement. It plays a key role in the backup planning during chiller replacement projects and critical loss of service failure. Recently, we helped a data center located in Slough, London when their back-up chiller failed. Our rapid chiller hire response plan involved installing two new isolation valves onto the chilled water systems low loss header. These were each fitted with 6-inch flanged isolation valves in preparation and prevention of future loss of chilled water service.
Our HVAC rentals turnkey installation team installed the new flanges with no loss of service, labelling them for future connection of a temporary data centre specification rental chiller. Due to extreme low temperature weather conditions, the existing chillers struggled and one 900KW chiller catastrophically failed causing a requirement to put our standby chiller rental plan into place.
One of our 950KW air-cooled rental chillers was delivered to the site and connected using high-pressure flexible hoses to our already installed temporary chiller connections. Our HVAC rentals pump was installed to enable flow across our rental chiller, providing stable chilled water to the client’s low loss header which was pumped using the sites ancillary flow equipment to the relevant data centre halls. The chiller remained in place for the duration of the new equipment lead-time.
This project was a completely in-house managed chiller hire project. We’re proud to have been able to help our client in their time of need and provide them with a reliable HVAC rentals solution.
