HVAC rentals recently provided a flight training centre with chiller rental alongside a comprehensive cooling hire package; As they were looking for a cooling hire solution for their newly installed flight simulator and flight simulator control room. Upon initial contact from the Crawley based flight centre (just on the outskirts of the M25 London), HVAC rentals firstly discussed all necessities in detail, ensuring to understand the client’s cooling capacity requirements.
Cooling Requirements
The flight centre required air conditioning and cooling within the flight simulator control and comms room, so needed consistent powerful cooling. They also required temperature control of their simulator cockpit, which was already connected to an already installed wet coil air handling unit, but required chilled water.
The client wanted a rental cooling solution in favour of giving them the ability to quickly and easily increase cooling capacity. They also planned on possibly needing even more cooling in the future, so a rental cooling solution was an effective and efficient decision. Rather than pay an enormous up front cost for a cooling system which they would likely have to amend or change out in the close-future. The rental chiller and cooling hire equipment allowed them reassurance, time and adaptability, the temporary chiller hire and rental of cooling equipment was a practical and cost effective move. Â
Solution using HVAC rentals:
After carrying out the free site survey, and confirming the client’s cooling capacity requirements, it was decided that two temporary cooling packages would be designed.
Package 1 - For the flight simulator control room cooling - split AC units
With our experience in temporary hire cooling for data centres we were able to size and select a series of rental split AC units which would control the load of the clients comms room which is the brain of the flight test simulator. Â
Package 2 - For providing cooling to the flight simulator- rental chiller & Pump sets
In order for our client to gain critical sign off of their application they required temperature control of their flight simulator cockpit which was connected to an already installed wet coil air handling unit. This air handling unit required chilled water to run through its cooling coil. Due to the upfront expense and limitation on future expansion we designed and selected a 120KW rental chiller package to provide chilled water to the existing AHU.Â
The flight simulator also had two three port valve control assemblies which control the hydraulic modules oil temperature. Using custom fabricated adapters we connected our new chilled water network to the valves to enable temperature control of the clients hydraulic module.Â

The key benefit of the HVAC rental was that the client can simply add additional chillers to our hire package should they wish to expand services to multiple flight simulators in the near future. It also meant they could focus on their specialisms whilst HVAC rentals take on the temporary chilled water installation.    Â
Delivery & Installation
HVAC rentals delivered and installed the rental chiller and cooling equipment within a quick timeframe. As the client was fortunate enough to have space within their existing building, a Hiab operated crane was used to lift the temporary rental chiller into place.  Â
